Epilogue: After Sherlock left the room holding little Susan close to his chest with John walking not far behind, Miss Stewart met them with concern on her face.
"Mr. Holmes? Dr. Watson? What happened in there?" she asked
Sherlock looked down at little Susan then back up at Miss Stewart.
"The Orb brought Susan back to life." he replied "It gave birth to her."
"Back to life? I don't understand." Miss Stewart said
Soon, the Doctor stepped forward.
"I can answer that. Miss Stewart, this is my granddaughter, Susan. She was reborn through the orb of life." he said
"But how did she die?" Miss Stewart asked
The Doctor sighed.
"On my planet, there was a war. I really don't want to talk about it since Susan's in the room but that's all you need to know." he said
"How unfortunate. You must be so lonely." John said
The Doctor shrugged "I try not to let it bother me."
Soon, little Susan let out a small cry as she clung to Sherlock.
Both the Doctor and John tried to look her over but soon, Miss Stewart interrupted them.
"I hope you don't mind my concern but Dr. Jones has called for an ambulance." She said
The Doctor furrowed his eyebrows and asked "Can't she send it back?"
"I'm afraid not, Doctor. She needs medical attention." Miss Stewart said
"I get to choose the hospital." Sherlock said as he held Susan protectively "And I go with her...I can't leave her alone."
"Sherlock, are you sure? We still have a madman to catch." John said
"Let me handle him, Watson." The Doctor replied then turned to Sherlock
"Keep Susan safe. She's your responsibility now." he said
Sherlock nodded then looked down at his sleeping newborn.
When the ambulance arrived, Sherlock refused to allow anyone but himself hold Susan.
But the medics wouldn't let him sit on a bench in the back of the ambulance either.
This was because during an examination of Sherlock's head and ankle, the medics found several mysterious bruises on his head and a minor concussion to boot.
During the ride over to the hospital (Sherlock chose St. Bart's since it was the place of so many important events relating to his detective work) Sherlock watched as the medics examined his little girl.
Susan squirmed and wiggled as this took place but Sherlock made sure that she stayed on his chest.
Sherlock looked down at Susan as she cooed and yawned.
But that peaceful expression soon turned to pain as a needle was poked into Susan's foot.
She screamed out loud. Loud enough to snap Sherlock out of his daze and into a state of protective rage against the medics.
"Why did you poke her with that?!" He asked, holding a frightened Susan close
"I-I-I...I'm sorry. I didn't know she would react like that." one medic said
Sherlock rolled his eyes and replied "Do stop stuttering. You're making my daughter even more uncomfortable."
"Speaking of comfortable Mr. Holmes, your concussion seems to be getting worse." another medic said
"If you think for one second I'm leaving my daughter to be looked after by strangers, you're out of your mind!" Sherlock said in protest as Susan let out a tiny sneeze then, began to cry again
"Sssshh...It's alright, sweetheart. Papa will protect you...I'll always protect you." Sherlock reassured
Later at the hospital, Little Susan slept peacefully in her bassinet in the nursery unit when out in the hall, a familiar sound woke her.
Meanwhile, the Doctor walked out of the TARDIS with tears in his eyes.
He looked at the piece of scarf from his 4th incarnation sadly and clutched it in his hand as he saw his hand start to glow with regeneration energy.
"I don't have much time to stay so, I should make this quick." The Doctor told himself
as he breathed a sigh and walked toward then opened the door with his sonic screwdriver and walked in.
When he saw Susan looking up at him, the Doctor nearly shed tears.
Then, placing the piece of scarf beside his granddaughter, The Doctor looked at Susan both with love and regret.
"Susan, I'm sorry for leaving you, sweetie. You don't deserve to be in my care. After all, I'm just a silly old man who runs around through time and space in a blue box. You deserve to be in the care of someone else; Someone who will care for you and pay attention to you and give you the life I couldn't. I hope one day you understand what I've told you someday when you're older but for now, I want you to remember and remember your home on Gallifrey." The Doctor said then he activated his sonic screwdriver "Oh Susan, there's so much you haven't seen...so much I could have showed you. But now, all these memories...all of these journeys and tales of a man in a blue box in space.
They will just be memories and dreams to you and to everyone else, a story. But lucky for the both of us, your dad knows the truth, eh? But between you and me Susan, this is the last story I'll ever get to tell you. (at least, looking like this.) When I see you again, I'll have a new face." The Doctor said as he paused and looked down at his hand then, swallowed hard "I'll have to go soon. Have a good life."
Soon, Susan was about to cry.
This made the Doctor's eyes well up.
"I'm sorry Susan, I have to go. Grow up knowing that I was with you...Bye Bye Susan. Remember me." he said before he kissed Susan's forehead as she cried
Then, the Doctor walked out as his regeneration energy increased.
When the Doctor ran into the TARDIS and slammed the door, he sank to the floor and shouted for Raven.
"Doctor! Are you alright?...Please don't go!" Raven cried
"Raven, it's time." The Doctor croaked through his pain
"Oh my GOD!...Doctor, you're regenerating!" Raven said in shock
"No." The Doctor replied, trying to stand up "I'm dying. But It's okay, I have a little longer to go."
"No! I can't let this happen! I can't let you die!..."Raven cried as she watched the Doctor slowly walk over to where little Amelia was resting and picked her up "What are you doing?"
"I'm sending Amelia to my past self. I don't want her to see me like this." The Doctor replied as Amelia (who was now almost a year old due to time travel confusion with the Orb of life adventure actually taking longer than the Doctor thought) snuggled into his purple coat
"It's going to be okay, Amelia." The Doctor reassured her as he set her on the TARDIS console then put a special locket around her neck which would allow her to time travel
Amelia reached for her father and looked at him with sorrow and whimpered "Da-da?"
"I'm sorry, Amelia." The Doctor said as he leaned over and pressed his forehead to his daughter's then let the tears fall as he then activated his sonic screwdriver and sent little Amelia to his past (a time he needed the most comfort, his brooding period in the Victorian era)
He soon felt his body run cold.
Raven ran to her dying lover as he fell over.
"It's up to you now. Take care of everything for me...the TARDIS, K-9, Danny, Trent, our son." The Doctor babbled
"Don't talk like that!" Raven cried
"Raven, Listen to me. I trust you...I trust you with everything. I can't just let my race die. It has to live on...so who else will I trust?" The Doctor croaked
Raven cried as she held her dying lover.
"I love you...I always have and will." she said
Soon, Raven kissed the Doctor passionately as regeneration energy flowed through the TARDIS console room.
Then, the kiss broke and suddenly things were different in the TARDIS.
The 11th Time Lord was gone and a 12th had emerged.
Though, this one was female.
"Danny, Am I...alive?" The Doctor asked
Danny nodded
"Trent?" The Doctor asked
"Yes...And you may want to look in a mirror." Trent said
"Why?" The Doctor asked "Did something go wrong with the regeneration?"
Trent said nothing and held up a mirror.
"Oh my GOD!" The Doctor cried "I'm still not ginger!"
Back at the hospital, Sherlock spent some time in the nursery with little Susan.
Holding her and cradling her while walking around the nursery, cooing at her.
John and Mrs. Hudson visited later that night to see little Susan (and to inform Sherlock of further updates on the murders due to the orb)
Of course, Sherlock would rather have them than the likes of Mycroft Holmes lurking around the hospital at this time of night.
In Sherlock's mind, Mycroft would only ruin this moment between himself and Susan.
And of course, having anyone from Scotland Yard around would just scare Susan (Lestrade was an exception of course)
And seeing the Doctor again would just make things exciting (after all, Sherlock craved adventure) but would just cause more heartache for the grief stricken time traveler.
But now, the consulting detective and his daughter were alone.
"It's alright Susie...Papa's got you. Don't cry." Sherlock comforted as Susan clung to her father's scarf and looking up at him with tears still in her eyes.
